Kinder Deer Hunting
We were late
one morning
going to the kindergarten
my dad and I
he made me memorize this song
he drew little figures
a mountain
a deer
and a gun
and the gurl
میخوام برم کوه
شکاره آهو
تفنگ من کو؟
لیلی جان
تفنگه من کو؟
which reads
"I'm going to the mountain
Deer hunting
Where is my rifle?
Dear Layli
Where is my rifle?
when we arrived
he explained
that we were rehearsing
as the reason to which we were late
he asked me to perform
in front of all the other kids
i felt set up
but I did it
he always made me feel sure
and i miss him
i miss that feeling
Pari Zanganeh
a blind woman
sings this folklore song
she reminds me of my mom
hearing this melody
after so long
means something
so much to me
when we were coming to canada
the government
had given her
permission to sing once again
in such old age
exceptional law
just for her
since the entire nation
loved her
she produced two albums
all remixes of her old work
in choir...
dad bought Yasi some tapes
and he bought me the two cassettes
of her recent work
we came to canada
and time passed
and i dont know where those tapes are anymore
i'm sure they are somewhere
stored in the basement
things changed
and i met people
and i saw so many faces
and nothing means so much
like the childhood memories
and i miss every second of it
i wonder how is Helia
Pari Zanganeh reminded me of her mom too
long gone are
the memories of the childhood friends
I hope who ever is out there
can appreciate this work of art
